Hildegard von Bingen and the Origins of the

Celtic Christian Faith

By: Lee Perry

Hildegard wrote that after her visions, she "was able to understand books

suddenly, the psaltery clearly, the evangelists and the volumes of the Old and New Testaments. . . ."(1)

Hildegard stated specifically how her visions did, and did not, come to her: "I spoke and wrote these things not according to the invention of my or any other person's heart, but as I saw, heard and perceived them in the heavens through the hidden mysteries of God."(2)

Hildegard tells us in her own words what she understood suddenly and clearly about the Old and New Testaments after experiencing her visions. She tells us that after her visions, she understood suddenly and clearly "the secrets of the heavenly mysteries" that have been "hidden from the people."(3)

She tells us that those "heavenly mysteries" include the mysteries of the Mass,(4) a subject we shall approach in this paper after first learning certain preliminary matters which are necessary for an understanding of Celtic Christianity.

Arguably, since at least the founding of the Roman Catholic Church at Nicaea in 325 C.E., there have existed in western, Pauline-Nicaean Christianity at least two distinct classifications of Christians. First, "exoteric" or "outer circle" Christian literalists. Second, "esoteric" or "inner circle" Christian allegorists.(5)

Arguably, Christianity before Nicaea primarily was a religion of allegorical "thinkers," regardless of their wealth or dominant position in society, or lack thereof. Arguably, after Nicaea, at the instance of the totalitarian Roman civil and religious authorities, "thinkers" among the Roman populace, as distinguished from the Roman power structure, customarily were not tolerated. The civil and religious power structures of the Ancient Roman Empire and of Medieval Europe constantly hammered into the heads of their common soldiers and civilians the message that, to avoid torture followed by summary execution, the common folk must "believe" and "obey."(6)

Although the local and national civil governments of our American Republic arguably are not nearly as authoritarian as the civil governments of Ancient Rome and Medieval Europe, our Christian Churches, Protestant and Dissenting Protestant, as well as Roman Catholic, remain more authoritarian than democratic. Typical Christian preachers as well as priests in the United States still are more apt to demand that their congregants believe and obey, instead of encouraging their congregants to engage in reasoned debate, or even discussion, with the clergy.(7)

Beyond any reasonable doubt, Celtic Christianity is distinctly different from Roman Catholicism and its spawn of Protestant and Dissenting Protestant Denominations. Roman Catholicism and the various denominations which broke away from it were influenced, if not squarely based upon, the religious thinking of Saint Paul, a second-generation apostle who never met Jesus during Jesus' lifetime, and who knew his (Paul's) "Risen Christ" only through his (Paul's) visionary experiences.(8)

Saint Paul was born and raised in Tarsus, an important center of the Mithraic Cult, which scholars and encyclopedias describe as a cult whose holy stories parallel the Christian Gospels in so many ways that early Christian clergy tried to explain away those parallels by contending that Satan created Mithraism before Christianity came into existence to lead Christians away from their Christian beliefs!(9)

Roman Catholicism arguably is a "syncretic" faith composed by the Roman civil and religious power structures from the doctrines of Mithraism as well as pre-Nicaean Christianity.(10) For instance, many modern, Pauline-Nicaean Christians worship on the Mithraic day of the Risen Sun, that is, Sunday, instead of during the Friday-night to Saturday-night Sabbath of both early Christianity and Rabbinical Judaism. Similarly, the Festival of Sol Invictus, celebrated by Mithraic worshipers on December 25th, became the official birthday of Jesus the Christ. Many more examples of Mithraic beliefs and practices now celebrated as "Christian" could be given, but there is not sufficient space in this rather short paper.

On the other hand, Celts got their "Christianity" from the Jerusalem Congregation of Nazoraean Hebrews, presided over by James, the "brother" of Jesus.(11) And from Enochian Judaism.(12) And also from the astronomical religion of the ancient pre-Celts, and the later Celts, which astronomy-based-religion still to this day is actively practiced in the western Gaeltachts of Ireland and Scotland. (13)

Whether or not James actually was the blood brother of Jesus, or merely a "brother" of Jesus' in the Nazoraean Hebrew sect into which John the Baptist earlier had baptized Jesus,(14) it is notable that the Hebrew Nazoraean pre-Christianity of James (with whom Saint Paul so often contended, according to the predominantly Pauline-Nicaean selection of Christian writings known as the "New Testament") arguably is a more direct source of knowledge about the Jesus the Christ than is provided by the visionary Saint Paul, a second-generation apostle who never met Jesus during His (Jesus') lifetime, and who knew his (Paul's) "Risen Christ" only through his (Paul's) visionary experiences. (15)

Moreover, John 19:19, properly translated into English from the Koine Greek, should be read "Jesus the Nazoraean," not "Jesus of Nazareth," because the translators of King James apparently did not understand the meaning of the Koine Greek words of John 19:19 identifying Jesus as a Nazoraean of the sect of Hebrews into which John the Baptist earlier had baptized Jesus.(16)

Moreover, the pseudepigraphal First, Second, and Third Books of Enoch the Prophet tell stories about Enoch later told by the Bible's doctrine-smiths about Jesus the Christ!(17) Not to say that Christian writers merely copied earlier Hebrew stories about Enoch to compose stories about Jesus. Those who finish reading this paper will understand that much more than simple plagiarism was involved in the parallels between the respective holy stories about Enoch the Prophet and Jesus the Christ. Both stories contain "secrets of the heavenly mysteries" that have been "hidden from the people." (18)

And the third element of Jamesian-Celtic Christianity (which also is found in Pauline-Nicaean Christianity) was derived from the pre-Celtic astronomical religion of northern Europe and the British Isles, which pre-Christian religion still actively is practiced in the western Gaeltachts of Ireland and Scotland.(19)

Proof, you demand! Provide substantial evidence of what I have written in this paper, say those open-minded Pauline-Nicaean Christians who have made it to this juncture of this paper! I shall. Next.

Hildegard saw in one of her visions a wheel become visible in the center of the breast of a human figure she saw in the midst of the southern air.(20)

As in Figure 1, below?(21)

The pattern of lines and circles upon which we have bolded the image of a human being with a wheel upon his or her chest (Figure 1, above) was known to the ancient Greeks as the "Katapetasma,"(22) to the ancient Hebrews as the "Pargod" or "Bar Goda,"(23) to the ancient Goidelic Celts (the ancestors of the modern Irish) as the "Greille,"(24) and to the earliest Christians as the "Heavenly Veil."(25)

Those ancients, and others, perceived that pattern as being centered upon the Pole Star in the northern sky.(26)

Ancient mathematical astronomers in pre-Celtic Ireland, Scotland, and Wales used the pattern as a grid for locating the "circling lights" of the sky during their posited "rotation" along the Zodiac and around the Pole Star.(27)

Later ancients, including but not limited to the Hebrews, Greeks, Celts, and the Hindu and Buddhist people of India, also used the pattern as a mandala upon which to divine religious images, such as Hildegard's wheel in the breast of a human figure which she saw in the southern air, and other Pauline-Nicaean Christian images that we soon will see in this paper.(28)

Even later, master masons used the algebraic-geometry of the pattern to define the four classical vaults, and the pendentive as solution for the engineering problem of how to set a round dome upon a square foundation, for purposes of constructing the great Gothic cathedrals of Europe. (29)

The pattern also illustrates the traditional Celtic Ring-Cross, including four protuberances representing the Four Guardian Stars or "Watchers" that quarter the Zodiac, which four stars the Prophet Ezekiel referred to as "Lion," "Ox," "Man," and "Eagle," and which Jamesian-Celtic and Pauline-Nicaean Christianity refer to as the "Four Evangelists," that is, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.(30)

And the pattern also illustrates the rainbow-colored "Uniaxial Interference Pattern" which is "thrown" internally in clear quartz crystal when it is struck by sunlight--the inspiration for the Celtic Ring Cross.(31) The ancient Hebrews referred to the rainbow-colored spectrum pattern in clear quartz crystals which were struck by sunlight, from which the Celtic Ring Cross was derived, as the "Ark of the Covenant,"(32) a symbol for God, the Unmoved Mover, who dwelled at the Cosmic Center and who "rotated" the "lights" of the sky around the Pole Star.(33)

The four crossed lines centered in the circle on the breast of the human form, as illustrated in Figure 1, above, and as perceived by Hildegard in the sky during one of her visions, was known to the ancient Hebrews as the "Shekinah," or the "Divine Presence." (34)

Some Hebrews said that this God-symbol appeared in the sky after God, Himself, abandoned the Holy of Holies in the Temple, and returned to the High Heaven.(35)This arguably explains why Professor Morton Smith found an ancient Christian papyrus referring to Jesus Christ as the God of the Pole Star. (36)

The word "Shekinah" was derived from the Hebrew word "shakan," meaning "to dwell."(37) The pre-Rabbinical Hebrews as late as the First and Second Temple periods said that God dwelled at the Cosmic Center of the "Shekinah," in Heaven, a single point at the center of those four crossed lines.(38) They also described the "Shekinah" as a virgin surrounded by light, whose face could not be seen.(39) As we already have noted, this God-symbol was perceived as being centered at the Pole Star.(40)

While the "Divine Presence," that is, the four crossed lines and the center point of those lines, known as the "Shekinah," appeared at a corresponding point on Planet Earth.(41)

The ancient "Correspondence Theory," under which things originally perceived as appearing on the Grail pattern in Heaven were said to have been manifest on Earth through God's Creation,(42) is expressed in the words of the Lord's Prayer, as follows: "[O]n Earth as it is in Heaven." Although those words are familiar to all Pauline-Nicaean Christians, the antecedent reference of those words surely will leave many "exoteric" or "outer circle" Pauline-Nicaean literalists breathless!

Those Pauline-Nicaeans whose spiritual "hearts" cannot stand the "heat" of this paper are invited to leave the "kitchen" in which these cosmic and religious concepts first were cooked up! Only spiritual "Eagles" of all ilks should fly on with the rest of us. Spiritual "Lions," "Oxen," and "Men" should continue to believe and to obey their spiritual herdsmen.(43) Yes, those words are blunt. We have no time in this short paper for protracted diplomacy. The truth almost always hurts. God made His Creation that way! Personal spirituality, unsupported by religious "group think," like old age, is no place for cowards!

The "Divine Presence" appeared where on Planet Earth? We next will learn that the "Divine Presence," that is, the "Shekinah" symbol for God, still appears at certain specific locations here on Planet Earth! As a matter of modern mathematical astronomy, as well as ancient science and religion!

The Hebrew Book of Enoch the Prophet states expressly that the Angel Uriel showed to Enoch the Prophet a horizon astronomical device which never can be used in Palestine but which device only can be used at certain specific locations on Planet Earth where the days and nights have a relative relationship with each other that exists only between the latitude of Stonehenge, in southern England, and the latitude of Maes Howe, in the Orkney Islands north of Scotland! (44)

At Stonehenge, the maximum swings of the sun and moon along the horizons draw the "Shekinah" symbol for God on the ground during each solar year!(45)And that "Shekinah" symbol for God never can be drawn by swings of the sun and moon along the horizons in the latitude of Palestine! (46)

Thus, the ancient Hebrew Book of Enoch the Prophet, which tells stories about Enoch later attributed to Jesus the Christ, describes ancient horizon astronomy which only can occur between the latitude of Stonehenge in southern England (Latitude North 51-degrees) and the latitude of the Neolithic construct known as "Maes Howe" (Latitude North 59-degrees) in the Orkney Islands north of Scotland. (47) Or, in other northern lands between those latitudes.(48)

As you will recall, the ancients believed that God dwells at the Pole Star in Heaven at the center of those four crossed lines, and that the "Divine Presence," the "Shekinah" pattern of lines we saw in Figure 1, above, is to be found at the corresponding point on Planet Earth.(49)

A book has been written in recent years showing anyone how to construct, at any permissible latitude, in the northern hemisphere, what the authors refer to as an "Uriel Machine," that is a fully-working device for accurate mathematical "horizon astronomy," regardless of whether or not he or she understands the mathematical principles of either ancient or modern astronomy. (50) The ancient Book of Enoch the Prophet tells them how.(51) No matter that a respected academician wants you to believe that the astronomy stated in that book is "unrelated to reality."(52) The contrary truth has been proven to anyone, numerate or not, who has eyes to see and ears to hear.(53)

Modern mathematical astronomy thus proves that the author of the pseudepigraphal Book of Enoch the Prophet either had visited in those high latitudes, or had communicated with some other person who had been there!(54) This is a shocking fact found embedded in an ancient book describing pre-Rabbinical Hebrew religious doctrine!

This mathematical science is no less valid because many Pauline-Nicaean Christians will make no effort to understand it, and will prefer to believe the academician who wrote that it is "unrelated to reality." Do you understand why the doctrine-smiths of pre-Nicaean Christianity incorporated this astronomical data, which they called the "Word of God,"(55) into their writings?

Unlike modern Pauline-Nicaeans who are willing to tell untruths about God Almighty in an effort to preserve the human institution known as the "Christian Church,"(56) the original doctrine-smiths of Pauline-Nicaean Christianity knew that ancient mathematical astronomers had found some of the mathematical precepts used by God Almighty in His Creation of the Earth.(57) And they dared not to exclude those precepts from their doctrinal documents, albeit they buried them below the surface of those matters which "exoteric" or "outer circle" Christian literalists were permitted by the "esoteric" or "inner circle" Christian allegorists to know and to understand. (58)

Why this concealment? Because anyone who understands the ancient science also is apt to understand the ancient religion derived from it, and, hence, knows that both existed for perhaps millennia before compilation of the doctrine books known to Christians as the Old Testament.(59) Because, as Clement of Alexandria, an early "father" of Pauline-Nicaean Christianity,(60) wrote about the "Secret Book of Mark,"(61) the mere fact that narratives deleted from the Book of Mark as it appears in modern Bibles were true and correct, does not mean that those narratives should not be deleted--because those true and correct narratives are contrary to the doctrine of the faith that is to be presented by "inner circle" Christians to "outer circle" Christians. (62) As Clement so eloquently wrote, a distinction must be drawn between actual truth and Pauline-Nicaean Christian "truth." (63) According to Clement, Pauline-Nicaean Christian "truth" is that which advances the Pauline-Nicaean Christian movement.(64) No better statement of the doctrine that the "ends" justify the "means" ever has been presented!

What was deleted from "Secret Mark" to produce the Book of Mark as found in our modern Bibles? "Inner circle" Christian doctrine-smiths wanted "outer circle" Christian literalists to believe that Jesus the Christ had worked "miracles." The narratives excerpted from "Secret Mark" prove beyond any reasonable doubt that Jesus did not raise Lazarus from a dead corpse to a living body.(65) The blunt fact is that Nazoraean Hebrews referred to themselves as "the living," and referred to all other Hebrews, and all Gentiles, as "the dead."(66) You already understand, and do not need the complete explanation from me? If not, here it is: "Secret Mark" proves that Jesus the Nazoraean had initiated Lazarus into that Hebrew sect, rather than giving life to a corpse! (67) Whether you believe it or not! I can think of no better example of the distinct difference between God's truth and Pauline-Nicaean "truth"!

You need not memorize, or understand, any of the foregoing, in order to understand that the wheel, including the four intersecting lines defining eight points on the circumference of the wheel, as perceived by Hildegard in one of her visions, and as seen in Figure 1, above, forms a monogram which stands for Jesus Christ (IX) crucified (on the cross +) as eternal God--the circle signifying eternity.(68) Similarly, the Koine Greek word for "fish" contains in the Koine Greek alphabet the initial letters of the words "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."(69) And, the name of the Egyptian sun-god was "Amen,"(70) the very word pronounced by modern Christian ministers as they finish the Benediction at the end of Christian ceremonies, while they form their bodies into the exact shape of the ancient Egyptian "ankh" cross, the Egyptian symbol for "life everlasting." (71)

Much was "hidden" from "exoteric" or "outer circle" Pauline-Nicaean literalists. Hildegard apparently knew it all. And why not? The Pauline-Nicaean Christian foundations where she lived, and over which she later presided, were established by Celtic Christians instead of Roman Catholics.(72)

You may read full explanations and evidentiary proof of all of the foregoing in Perry, Lee. The Holy Grail, Cosmos of the Bible. Philosophical Library, New York, 1991. Only go there if your mind is capable of thinking about Christian origins, instead of merely believing what your clergy have taught you to believe.

And you may read a summary of the foregoing, and find sources of Lee Perry's two books, and excerpts from his not-yet-published third book, by visiting his web pages at http://www.jesussilenced.com/

Those three books, authored by Lee Perry, and mentored by a former Trustee of Scholars' Press, a former adjunct of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature, cannot be compressed into the narrow confines of the present paper. Only a quick summary may here be provided.

Hildegard also saw in one of her visions an image in the shape of a human, on an ivory plaque, on the breast of a young woman named "Lady," who brought forth the image from her womb before the daystar.(73)

Hildegard's vision about the image in the shape of a human, on an ivory plaque, on the breast of a young woman named "Lady," who brought forth the image from her womb before the daystar, related to the effort of the first historian of the Christian Church, Bishop Eusebius of Caesaraea, to convince his readers that Jesus Christ was born a priest in the order of Melchizedek.(74) Psalm 110 in Eusebius' Bible, and in the Vulgate Bible, reads as follows: "From the womb before the daystar I begat Thee." (75) Other Bibles mangle that verse badly, intentionally, to prevent modern Pauline-Nicaean "exoteric" or "outer circle" Christian literalists from discovering some of the "secrets of the heavenly mysteries" which Hildegard told us have been "hidden from the people." (76)

Ask yourself how Eusebius possibly could have contended that Jesus Christ was born from the womb before the daystar, and also was born of Our Lady, Mother Mary? Answer: Because Christianity had crowned Our Lady as the Queen of Heaven, as successor to all of the many earlier Queens of Heaven by whose names the daystar, the Planet Venus in its role as Morning Star, previously had been known.(77) Modern as well as ancient mathematical astronomers have said that the womb of light before the daystar, that is, before Venus rising as the Morning Star, announces the rising of the sun.(78) Early Christians said the womb of light announced the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, who was born of Mother Mary.(79) If ancient stories about previous Queens of Heaven merely were allegories instead of histories of actual events occurring between real people in real time and real space, then what must be said of the Biblical version of the story in which only the names of the principal characters have been changed?

And what do we see illustrated in Figure 2, below?(80)

Do we see in Figure 2, above, a crowned and bearded humanform nailed to a Roman-style Cross, with the Chi-Rho symbol for Jesus Christ(81) above His head, and with the Vesica Pisces fish-form symbolizing Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior,(82) below His feet? Do we also see in that Grail image, Joseph of Aramathaea, robed and hooded as the first priest of the Roman Catholic Church, extending the Grail Chalice to catch the blood issuing from the side of the man on the Cross? (83) Gaelic-speakers always have known that a Grail ("Greille," in Irish-Gaelic) is something in the shape of a grill, griddle, or grid-iron, that is, a pattern of lines, instead of a cup or chalice. Father Dinneen's Dictionary says so explicitly. (84)

And, finally, what do we see in Figure 3, below?(85)

The author of the Grail story "Parzival," that is, Wolfrom von Eschenbach, tells us that what we see in Figure 3, above, is an image of a hooded and robed priest, with a bell in his right hand, and with a crozier in his left hand, ringing the bell to summon the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, down to Earth from Heaven, to convert the Host over the Chalice, and the wine in the Chalice, into the body and blood of Jesus Christ in "real presence." (86) Wolfram tells us that we see on the Holy Grail in the Heavens the origins of the Roman Catholic Mass.(87) Early Christians believed that images seen as prototypes in Heaven on the Katapetasma, Pargod, Bar Goda, Greille, or Heavenly Veil, later became manifest in God's Creation here on Earth.(88) What do you believe?

1. Hozeski, Bruce. Hildegard of Bingen's Scivias. Bear & Company, Inc., Santa Fe, 1986, at page 2. Under the rule of construction known as "ejusdem generis," the meaning of a word in a series of words should be construed to be consistent with the other words in the series. According to Webster's New World Dictionary, the word "psaltery" can be a reference to a stringed, musical instrument. Hildegard was an accomplished musician. But the other words in the series quoted by Bruce Hozeski all are references to religious books. According to the same dictionary, the word "psaltery" also can be a reference to the "Psalms." Thus, by the application of the foregoing rule of construction, I must suggest to my readers that they should construe the word "psaltery" in Bruce Hozeski's quotation from Hildegard to be a reference to the Psalms.

7. The author of this paper is a member of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature. He has attended Sunday-school and Church in a wide variety of Catholic, Protestant, and Dissenting Protestant denominations.

The only times that the author has participated in reasoned debate, or even "free-wheeling" discussion, of the subject-matter of a religious lesson or sermon has been in several Unitarian-Universalist congregations. Some persons would contend that such congregations are not "Christian." It is quite true that many Unitarian-Universalists, as the very name of their congregations suggests, reject the Christian Trinity, and believe in One God, as do adherents of Rabbinical Judaism. But some Unitarian-Universalists have described themselves to the author as "Christian Universalists." And there seems to be "some gum" to this claim.

For instance, one of the largest "Christian" congregations in Greenville, Georgia, is a congregation which describes itself as "Christian Universalist." Unlike typical Pauline-Christian fundamentalists where the author lives on the "buckle" of the "Bible Belt," those Christian Universalists believe that all persons who live good lives go to Heaven, whereas the author's typical Pauline-Nicaean neighbors believe that anyone who does not believe that Jesus Christ was God is doomed to perpetual punishment in "Hell."

Those "Christian Universalists," unlike many Jamesian-Celtic Christians such as the author, do believe that Jesus Christ was God. But they reject the notion that only through belief that Jesus was God may a person go to Heaven and thereby avoid the perpetual punishments of "Hell," of which the author's Pauline-Nicaean Christian neighbors are so thoroughly afraid.

Moreover, many "Christian Universalists" have open minds about the following indisputable facts:

First, "Hel" was the posited goddess of the Germanic-Teutonic mythical underworld, a place said to be cold and wet rather than hot and dry. Thus, our folk expression that it is, "As cold as Hell."

Second, the words translated as "Hell" by the English-language translators who were employed by King James of England are as follows: "Sheol," Hebrew for any generic hole in the ground, including any grave. "Sheol" was posited in ancient Hebrew mythology to be the underground place where the "shades" or "ghosts" of the dead went to live but not to be punished.

And "Hades" and "Tartarus," underground places in Greek mythology where the spiritual remains separated from the physical bodies of the dead were said to live but not to be punished.

And, "Gehenna," the only place of punishment mentioned in the Bible, by which your author means the ancient book written in Aramaic, Hebrew, and Koine Greek. "Gehenna" was the former ever-burning municipal garbage dump or landfill of the Old City of Jerusalem, located outside of the Dung Gate. "Gehenna" contained the ever-burning "pit" into which the bodies of executed Hebrew felons were thrown instead of being given "proper" Hebrew burial, which was an after-death punishment that was loathsome to most Hebrews. "Gehenna" no longer exists. All that remains is a rocky valley where tourists as well as locals go to experience the non-existence of "Hell." Friends of the author quip that visitors to that rocky valley best take with them a bottle of potable water and some sunburn lotion, as the valley can be "as hot as Hell."

Third, the Christian concept of "Hell" had its origins with an Italian poet known as "Dante," who was born Durante Alighieri, circa 1265-1321. The Roman Catholic Church first excommunicated, and later anathematized "Dante," because of his fiction about "Hell," but later reinstated him as a congregant when the Church discovered what a potent "stick" Dante's concept of "Hell" is to convince pewsitters to believe and obey their priests.

Fourth, some academicians have written that the Persian Zoroastrian concept of the "Fiery Crucible," that is, the Bible's "Lake of Fire," was the inspiration for Dante's "Hell." More accurately, the Zoroastrian "Fiery Crucible" or "Lake of Fire" might be said to be the inspiration for Roman Catholic Purgatory, as both were/are conceived to be places of temporary purification rather than perpetual punishment.

Fifth, the remarkable thing about the foregoing is the typical reaction of Pauline-Nicaean fundamentalist preachers down here in the "Bible Belt," who actually preach more often about the horrors of "Hell" than they preach about the love of Jesus the Christ. Without the concept of "Hell," fundamentalist preachers down here would not be able to scare their pewsitters into belief and obedience!

The early Christians spoke of a boundary (horos) between Heaven and Earth, over which was stretched a veil or curtain (katapetasma), onto which were projected, from Heaven, the secret patterns (paradeigmata) of creatures and objects. Early Christians said that Christ was the guardian of this Heavenly Veil; was the door or gate between Heaven and Earth; and that only through Him could humankind enter Heaven. Walker, Benjamin. Gnosticism. The Aquarian Press, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England, 1983, pages 34-35. The concept of Jesus Christ as the guardian of the Heavenly door or gate thus predated the Christian doctrine-smith who wrote the favorite Biblical narrative of Christian fundamentalists, that is, John 14:6. The fundamentalists will not like being told that the cosmic gate-keeper was a concept long before Christianity, and that early Christian myth-smiths merely replaced the names of former gate-keepers with their new cosmic gate-keeper, Jesus the Christ! Let's not tell them, because they doubtless would condemn us to their non-Biblical "Hell" for even thinking, much less writing or saying, such things! Some things are best not said to some people! No matter the proof, they never would believe us! So, why even try?

Cirlot tells us that "[T]he rose, the lotus flower, the heart, the irradiating point, these are the most frequent symbols of this hidden centre. . . ." Cirlot, J.E. A Dictionary of Symbols. Second Edition. Philosophical Library, Inc., New York, 1983, at page 194. Cirlot defines the symbol of the Center: "In all symbols expressive of the mystic Centre, the intention is to reveal to Man the meaning of the primordial 'paradisal state' and to teach him to identify himself with the supreme principle of the universe." Cirlot, infra, at pages 40-42.

Christians always have aspired to be at one with each other and with Jesus Christ, their God, who has been conceived of as the Center of the Christian Cosmos, which has been visualized to be centered upon the Pole Star. Cirlot, infra, at page 339.

"Similarly, Hindu doctrine declares that God resides in the centre, at that point where the radii of a wheel meet at its axis. . . . In diagrams of the cosmos, the central space is always reserved for the Creator. . . . and . . . . the wheel of the Zodiac. . . . and a four-part division corresponding to the seasons and the tetramorphs. . . ." Cirlot, supra.

The "tetramorphs" of Ezekiel are Lion, Ox, Man, and Eagle, the four guardian stars known in the Christian system of thought as Mark, Luke, Matthew, and John, which quarter the Zodiac. "In some liturgical crosses, as for example that of Cong, in Ireland, the centre is marked by a precious stone." Cirlot, supra. A precious stone centers Ezekiel's visions. Ezekiel 1:26.

Dr. Samuel Noah Kramer taught us that the eight-pointed star symbol which we saw centering Hildegard's vision illustrated in Figure 1, above, was the Sumerian symbol for "God," and that it is one of the oldest written symbols of mankind. Do you get the impression that the scholars of religion have maintained a continuing dialogue with each other across time and space but out of sight and hearing of the common man?

All of this religious cosmology was based upon the ancient astronomy which posited the Grail pattern centered upon the Pole Star. Perry, Lee. The Holy Grail, Cosmos of the Bible. Philosophical Library, New York, 1991, at pages 308-347.

The Ethiopian priest who is said to have in his custody the actual Ark of the Covenant recently described the Ark of the Covenant to an American reporter as being an "object of pure tabot" and as a "thing of fire." Get yourself a copy of the television program styled "Mysteries of the Bible," as it appeared on the History Channel, by calling 1-800-708-1776, in order to learn these things for yourself. My readers understood both of those two quotations! So would you, if you were to read Perry, infra, at pages 18-19!

But if you would prefer to ignore my writings, then see, Mercier, Jacques, Ethiopian Magic Scrolls, George Braziller, Inc., New York, 1979, if you do not know what a "tabot" is, and if you want to learn.

Let me save you some time. You can check me out, if your religious beliefs will not allow you to believe me! Provided, of course, that your religious beliefs will allow you to inquire further into these matters!

"Tabots" are rectangular, wooden tablets covered by painted symbols, which symbols Ethiopian priests contend are to be found on the "thing of fire" to which they refer as the "Ark of the Covenant."

My readers know from my first book, supra, that the rainbow-colored Uniaxial Interference Pattern which can be seen in clear quartz crystals which have been struck by sunlight is (1) the visionary inspiration for the Prophet Ezekiel's first-chapter and tenth-chapter visions, (2) which visions are the inspiration for the Celtic Ring-Cross, (3) which Ring-Cross is a mandala diagram of the Cosmos of Ezekiel's first-chapter and tenth-chapter visions. And (4) that each and every verbal image appearing in Biblical narratives about the Ark of the Covenant (Exodus 25:10 through 25:22) can be seen within that mandala pattern, (5) which mandala pattern was known to the ancient Greeks as the "Katapetasma ," to the ancient Hebrews as the "Pargod" or "Bar Goda," to the ancient Goidelic Celts as the "Greille," and to early Hebrew and Greek Christians as the "Heavenly Veil." I challenge you to disbelieve me, and to check these assertions out for yourself. Perry, infra, at pages 11-34, and 55-78. If you are not afraid that such enquiry would condemn you to perpetual punishment in the non-Biblical "Hell" preached by your clergy-person.

Also, Enoch allegedly was translated to the High Heaven with the Shekinah, and the Shekinah allegedly was removed by God from Earth on account of the idolatry of humans. Odeberg, Hugo, infra, Part II, pages 19, 21, 154.

We also are told that the Merkaba, that is Ezekiel's "Throne Wagon," is the Throne of the Shekinah. Odeberg, Hugo, infra, Part II, page 22.

We also are informed that, "In later cabbalistic sources, one actually finds that the 'four camps of the Shekina' are referred to the 'Eagle-Ox-Lion-Man' vision." Odeberg, Hugo, infra, at Part II, page 55.

We are told that the Prince of the Kerubim (Cherubim) has a body "full of eyes" and that the splendor of the Shekinah, that is, God's Glory, is "on his face." Odeberg, Hugo, infra, Part II, at pages 74-75, 98.

Finally, we are warned that no one must be allowed to understand the vision of the Merkaba, that is, Ezekiel's first-chapter and tenth-chapter visions, who is not "worthy" of that understanding. Odeberg, Hugo, infra , Part II, at page 54.

Readers of my books understand! Do you? Who are those persons who are "worthy" of understanding that all of these cosmic concepts were divined by ancient religious doctrine-smiths from contemplations of the Grail mandala? Only those rich and powerful persons who control the power structures of religion, government, and commercial enterprise? Or, all of humankind? Perhaps that question can be answered by answering this question: What is the purpose of organized religion? To help everyone to understand the Creator of us all? Or, to help the power structures of religion, government, and commercial enterprise to control the persons and purses of the common folk? Answer: Grail-story authors uniformly were of the opinion that Christian knights would cease their combats with each other, and with Moslem knights, were they to realize that they were killing each other over visions that seers had seen among optical illusions appearing within a pattern of lines. 55. My Christian fundamentalist neighbors insist that the Bible is the "word of God." I am of the opinion that a more accurate statement would be that the Bible contains the "word of God." I believe the difference between those two statements is important.

I always have been amazed that Christian fundamentalists who claim that the Bible is the "word of God" are perfectly willing intentionally to translate the Bible erroneously in order to protect Christian dogmas. If they really believe that the Bible is the "word of God," then how do they dare intentionally translate the Bible erroneously?

One example should suffice to make the point. Isaiah 7:14 in my King James' Translation of the Bible says that "a virgin shall conceive." However, anyone who is literate in the Hebrew Language knows that a correct translation of Isaiah 7:14 is, instead, "a young woman shall conceive." The incorrect translation supports the Christian Doctrine known as "The Isaiah Prophecy." The correct translation does not support the Christian claim that Isaiah 7:14 predicted that the Virgin Mary would give birth to Jesus.

Accordingly, because the correct words are "young woman" instead of "virgin," how dare Christians say in one breath that the Bible is the "word of God," while intentionally mistranslating what they say is the "word of God?" Because Christian doctrine is more important to Christians than an accurate translation of what they contend is the "word of God?" When concepts are in conflict with each other, but Christians refuse to acknowledge the conflict, psychiatrists say that Christians are affected with a mental disconnect which is known as "cognitive dissonance."

I suggest that the words "word of God" are a short-hand reference to mathematical precepts used by God in His Creation, which precepts are in conflict with what religionists actually had written but had attributed to God, although those religionists knew that God's reality was otherwise. One example should suffice. Hebrew religionists insisted, in effect, that God believes that Pi is 3.0 instead of 3.14. 1 Kings 7:23. Why? Because Hebrew religionists had insisted that God, Himself, provided the plans and specifications for the Tabernacle and the Temple, which includes a Pi of 3.0 instead of a Pi of 3.14. 1 Kings 7:23, Exodus 25:8-9, 1 Chronicles 28:11-19, and Wisdom of Solomon 9:8. Hebrew mathematicians knew that God knew better! But they were not sufficiently powerful in Hebrew society to contradict the Hebrew religionists who were wrong but were unwilling to admit their error--after the Hebrew religionists had attributed that error to God, Himself! So, the Hebrew mathematicians had to bury their knowledge about the correct value of Pi, that is, 3.14, in an allegory about 22 cups or bowls upon which 7 lamps sit. Exodus 25:31-37. Can you understand the allegory? 22/7ths are equal to 3.14, the correct value for Pi! So what? So, Hebrew mathematicians knew what we may presume that God knew, that is, that the correct value of Pi is 3.14, but they were without power to contradict Hebrew religionists who had incorrectly attributed the 3.0 value of Pi to God, Himself, instead of being sufficiently honest to admit that they, the religionists, had made the mistake. Mathematicians admit their mistakes and correct them. Religionists bury their mistakes in convoluted doctrine books. Thank God that mathematicians build bridges and airplanes, instead of religionists!

Saint Augustine would have understood what I just wrote, even if you do not. Saint Augustine admitted, candidly, that "[I]gnorance of number prevents us from understanding things that are set down in the scripture in a figurative and mystical way." James, John. Chartres: The Masons Who Built A Legend. Routledge & Kegan Paul, London, 1985, at page 85.

56. The author of this paper could write a long book enumerating the many and varied efforts of Pauline-Nicaean Christian academicians, clergy, and lay persons to protect institutionalized Christianity from the many untruths he personally has seen and heard perpetrated about the history, as distinguished from theology, of the faith. Since publication of The Holy Grail, Cosmos of the Bible, back in 1991, the author repeatedly has presented copies of that book and writings about that book to representatives of the print and electronic news media in the United States. Repeatedly, he has been told that the general public must be denied any opportunity to read, or even to know about, that book and the author's academic papers. The author has been told that the more correct his writings are, the more the general public must be denied all knowledge about his writings.

Usually, news media representatives have declined to give reasons for their censorship and suppression of the author's writings. On some few occasions, the news media representatives have given the author their reasons for censorship and suppression of his work, including the following: (1) Christianity is the reason for our civilization, morals, and ethics, regardless of whether or not Christianity is true or false. (2) Western society would "come unglued" were Christian true-believers to read my writings. (3) Christianity is good for people regardless of whether or not its doctrines and dogmas are true or false. (4) Christians would riot in the streets, and would go upon a rampage of murder and destruction of property, were they to know the contents of my books and academic writings. (5) It would be unfair to destroy people's dreams about an after-life in Heaven which is available only to those persons who accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior. (6) Any news media, whether print or electronic, which would dare to publish my work would suffer immediate and severe economic reprisals for their having let people know that which people do not want to learn and to understand. (7) People are not interested in learning about my writings and it is in their best interest that they not be told the actual origins of the Christian faith. (8) What would happen to the billions of dollars of Church property were the people to read and to understand my writings? (9) Other religions would have to fill up the vacuum which would result if Christianity were to disappear off the face of the earth.

Please notice that most of the foregoing opinions assume that the author's writings are correct rather than wrong! Many of those opinions assume that Christianity has something to hide, which the clergy should keep from the pewsitters for the good of the pewsitters!

Almost everyone who has given the author a reason or reasons for not publishing news of his writings have felt that Christianity could not survive knowledge by its true-believers that some (but not all) of the narratives of the Christ Story are about accurate history of visionary experiences rather than about actual events which happened in real time and real space between real people. The author disagrees. After the Council of Nicaea, in 325, A.D., the message of the totalitarian Church to its pewsitters was that they must believe and obey, or suffer a horrible death by torture and burning at the stake, followed by perpetual punishment in Hell. Before Nicaea, Christianity flourished as a partially-historical and partially visionary faith, driven by love rather than by fear of reprisals here and during the afterlife. The author believes Christianity would flourish today as it did during its earliest days. If only the clergy simply would be honest about God Almighty.

57. The following is the best example possible of ancient mathematical astronomy which became an aspect of early Christianity.

In the astronomy of the pre-Celts of Europe and the British Isles, the twelve divisions of the Zodiac were quartered along the Ecliptic by four "Guardian Stars," which stars also were referred to as the "Tetramorphs," "Royal Stars," "Archers," and "Watchers." These four stars define a cross in the sky.

These four stars are Regulus, lying in the constellation Leo (the Lion), Aldebaran, lying in the constellation Taurus (the Bull), Fomalhut, now lying in the Southern Fishes but formerly considered to be lying in the constellation Aquarius (the water-bearing Man), and Antares, lying in the former constellation of the Eagle, which now is more or less the constellation of Scorpio, the scorpion. They are Lion, Ox, Man, and Eagle, that is, the Tetramorphs of Ezekiel's first-chapter and tenth-chapter visions, and the symbols chosen by the Christian Church for the four Evangelists. The Christian order is: Matthew--the winged Man; Mark--the winged Lion; Luke--the winged Ox; and John--the Eagle.

Within extended periods of time during the Precession of the Equinoxes, certain of those four stars served, roughly speaking, as locators of the solstices and the equinoxes. The four Guardian Stars located the Equinoctial and Solstitial Colures, that is, four great circles in the sky.

As illustrated below on the Grail (Katapetasma, Pargod, Bar Goda, Greille, or Heavenly Veil), each of these four colures is centered by a "Shekinah" symbol, which represents each of the four Guardian Stars. The "Shekinah" symbol centered in the fifth circle represents God Almighty, symbolized by the sun, which in turn is centered upon an "asteroid," a/k/a "concave-sided tetragon," a/k/a an "envelope of ellipses."

According to one of the mathematical astronomical theories of Johannes Kepler (circa 1571-1630), the planets travel around the Sun at variable velocities along flight-paths resembling ellipses.

Therefore, the Grail mandala, which is centered on the sky at the Pole Star, is nothing less than a Stone Age pictographic, stereographic, projection or depiction of our Sun-centered solar system! Whether you like it or not! And whether you believe it or not!

No, the ancients were not sun-worshipers. Instead, they regarded the sun as a symbol for the "Unseen, Unmoved, Mover" of the "circling lights" of the night-time sky. No one would dare to call the Biblical Hebrews "sun-worshipers," albeit that the Sun as a symbol for God clearly is what is intended by Exodus 33:20-23. American Indians learned that the sun's reverse image safely can be viewed by allowing the sun's rays to pass through a narrow opening in or between rocks, and to fall upon a rock surface--the very sun-viewing technique which obviously is being described by Exodus 33:20-23!

Yes, the ancients knew what rotated around what in the sky! They understood that a round ball, that is, the Planet Earth, rotated around itself once daily as it rotated yearly around the Ecliptic. Can I prove that? Certainly! Read for yourself Ezekiel's first-chapter and tenth-chapter visions, which reference a "wheel," that is, the spinning Planet Earth, within (Hebrew: betoch) a "wheel," that is, the "wheel" of the "Zodiac," which is known in ancient and modern mathematical astronomy as the "Ecliptic."

Wait a minute, you insist! Did our primary-school teachers not teach us that Galileo Galilei (circa 1564-1642) was the first person to discover that the Christian Church was wrong in its claim that the Sun rotates around the Earth, rather than the Earth rotating around the Sun? You recall that grammar-school lesson quite correctly! But your teacher probably did not teach you that the Church condemned Galileo to death for telling folks that the solar system is Sun-centered instead of Earth-centered, and that the Church commuted that death sentence to permanent house arrest for Galileo's lifetime upon the condition that Galileo had to admit that the Church was correct in its teaching that the solar system is Earth-centered instead of Sun-centered!

Why would the Medieval Church care whether or not our solar system is Sun-centered instead of Earth-centered? And, did the clergy of the Church not know better? Why was Galileo first condemned to death, which sentence was commuted to house arrest for his life, simply for teaching a physical fact which we know these days to be correct, that is, that the solar system is Sun-centered?

Because, as we have learned earlier in this paper, there often is a distinction between God's truth and "Christian Truth." The Church had a problem. As long as the "exoteric" or "outer circle" Christian literalists who were the Church's pewsitters knew that the solar system is Sun-centered, they never would give up, even under threats of torture and death, their belief in the pre-Christian astronomical religion which was based upon the ancient astronomy which realized that the solar system is Sun-centered! So, the Church taught that the solar system is Earth-centered, although its mathematical astronomers knew that Church untruth was contrary to God's truth. One more example of "Christian truth" being at odds with God's truth!

But the Church had a problem in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, where some of the people kept on believing in the ancient Sun-centered solar system, and also in the pre-Christian religion which was premised upon knowledge of what rotates around what in the sky! Some of the children in those regions of the British Isles were told one "truth" in Church, and another "truth" by the "Auld Wans" who were the repositories of the ancient science and religion!

The power of the Christian Church over scientific education quickly is dissolving during these days of the computer and other electronic devices. But we still sing about the sun's coming up in the morning, although we know that it does not, because religious custom lingers on after God's truth has been "outed."

58. We already have discussed the notion that not everyone is sufficiently "worthy" to know all things about a religion. The author does not accept such exclusionary assertions.

59. How far back in time does this ancient science go? In Ireland, at least as far back as the middle of the third millennium B.C.E.
